Flyhawk look ahead to a big 2024 with launch of the ‘Teen Girls Kit Project’

Since our inception 3 years ago, Flyhawk has been at the forefront of championing female empowerment in sport, it’s something that we are beyond passionate about and was a driving force behind the creation of Flyhawk. With this being said, it is with great pleasure that we can announce the launch of our brand new Teen Girls Kit Project, a venture that will hope to usher in a new era for PE kit, teamwear and sportswear, making them all something that girls across the UK ‘want to wear’ over ‘have to wear’.

After 10 years with a front row seat observing the sportswear and teamwear industry we became baffled that time and time again brands often ignore the needs of the female audience and a change is long overdue. The primary aim of Teen Girls Kit Project is to shake up girls PE kit, teen teamwear and sportswear, ultimately developing and providing a ‘Teen Girls Kit Collection’ that teenage girls the UK over enjoy wearing and above all, feel comfortable in.

According to a study undertaken by Women in Sport in 2022, ‘64% of teenage girls drop out of sport before the age of 17, with 8/10 experiencing issues in self-esteem due to body image’.  This simply cannot continue. Clothing should never be a barrier or stop anyone doing something they love, sport and society as a whole can and must do better to support women and girls in their struggle to feel comfortable, confident and able to be individually expressive when participating in sport.

Flyhawk is approaching the conversation surrounding female sport from a new angle with Teen Girls Kit Project. The creation of a dedicated Instagram page (@teengirlskitproject), planned collaborations with like-minded brands and individuals and a specialised, dedicated kit collection are a few of the steps that have been planned and set in motion. Alongside these, Flyhawk has compiled an online survey that will be sent to thousands of UK teenagers and parents/guardians in order to better understand and analyse the systemic issues facing teenagers when it comes to sports apparel.
